Help making space girl fancy dress

Options
I am going to a fancy dress party in Oct and would quite like to go as a futuristic/mod space girl. If you google ursa minor costume it should bring up the type of thing I am going for. I am no use at sewing and dressmaking so could anyone advise how to make the stiff skirt (what fabric to use?) or even a pattern for this kind of thing I would be grateful. This costume itself seems to be sold out everywhere! Plus most of the generic space outfits in the party shops are expensive and a little too revealing! THanks in advance.

I'd start by going into a fabric shop and asking for help in there - they'll have patterns similar to that - I had a quick look at Simplicity & McCalls online but didn't see quite the same, but they'll be able to advise you on what easy patterns you could use. It looks like an easy outfit to assemble once you've sorted the dress/top & skirt!

An alternative idea is to do a charity shop rummage for a pink/purple dress of more or less the right shape, then cut off arms and however much skirt, add a band of material along the bottom of the skirt and add the V over-collar round the neck. You could then use silver etc. ribbons of whatever thickness to metallic up the dress.

Try to find a charity shop purple full skirt+top/dress or dye them, cut to the right length and grab some silver spray paint.

I have to go to fancy dress balls at the time (due to OH's work jollies.... grrr). I ALWAYS make my own costumes from stuff I pick up in TKMax or charity shops. TKMax will be good for 'space-girl' as they can do some really truly awful, odd, futuristic, silvery creations that you could pick up for a couple of quid and go mad with safety pins etc.

You could customise an old dodgy wire hanger as an antenna!
