                    Hi all
im currently BR - 31st Jan 2011 - and i know when going BR they stated you can not borrow any money greater than £500... well is it at all possible to borrow up to £500 while BR??? (i dont need £500 but ive just noticed the one of the tyes on my car is now illegal and the others need changing ASAP!!!
this isnt the route i was planning when i went BR in the first place but IF i was to get any sort of credit i would be able to pay it all back on payday i just dont like the risk of if anything happened my insurance being invalid due to my tyres.
i get the feeling this may have to go on my mum/dads credit card but i dont like asking them.
im pretty sure i know the answer but i would like to just check before asking
regards

You can borrow upto £500 without disclosing your status, you can borrow more than £500 if you tell them that you are BR, the problem is finding someone who will lend you anything.0

you are allowed to borrow up to £500, however, finding someone willing to lend you the money is a different matter. can you cut back on anything else this month or, as you say, ask your parents for help?0

Try your local Credit Union. Google Credit Union and your town/county.
This one near me http://www.bristolcreditunion.org/content.asp?section=12BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0

cheers for the quick responces, ill try the credit unions but i think i would rarther go the parent route and pay them back as i dont really want the interest this is my last payday before i take a paycut of 4k a year

Have a look at scrappies in your area, i needed new wheels and tyres and got full sized spare tyres that were in almost brand new condition for £10 each. good luck op 0 0

budget tyres, or even used tyres, may be a way forwards?
Don't forget, you will have included maintenance costs within your SOA if your car is exempted.
So, anything from between 10 to 15 quid, up to around 40 quid for a new budget tyre should not be out of the way?No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0

Can I just make a point that some people are taking this bankruptcy thing too far in my opinion. Cheap and secondhand tyres can be extremely dangerous and the risks are magnified if you are carrying children. Its one thing that shouldn't be skimped on. Personally I would tell the OR to take a running jump if he had a problem with me putting safe tyres on a vehicle. Otherwise, if you cant afford to have a roadworthy car with decent tyres, use public transport.0

You need to look at part worn tyres. I almost always get these now. There are a few places round here but last time I got them on my old golf (no idea of size of wheels sorry!) they were £50 for four almost new Continental ones. Bargain of the year. You can get one fitted and balanced for £15.There are many things in life that will catch your eye, only a few will catch your heart. Pursue those.0
