Phone Bill - disputed

In 2008 my phone bill was incorrectly calculated, I was supposed to have passport on my contract end they calculated it without.
They went away and looked into it and presented me with another big bill. I was in France at the time doing a ski season at the time so it was very hard for me to look into it!
Anyway by the time i get home the bill was passed onto a collections agency which added a £500 charge...which i refused to pay..I thought it was outrageous. Anyway they said i defaulted despite me paying the full balance because i was so scared of wrecking my credit rating.
Now 3 years later this is still on my file and i feel a little hard done by...anything i can do?
Trying to rebuild credit rating

Yeah be good and pay your exisiting comitments ontimeDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0
