ASDA Job Interview

Just been asked to attend an 'ASDA Magic Assessment' I completed a really long online test for this the other week and just wondering if anybody else has been for one of these, wondering what to wear and what sort of questions do they ask?

Also will they do a credit check as I'm ex-bankrupt!

Any help would be greatly appreciated

If you are working on the shop floor even on the till I am sure that there will no credit check however if you are in the cash office or doing payrole it might involve a credit check.

The jobs that normally credit check are working in bank or with financial products such as insurance.

Is that one of those group interview things? Or don't they do that any more?

Glad you have had a reply! My Dh applies a few weeks ago for a night manager, and has an email to say we've had loads of applications and will get back to you and nothing as yet. We sent them an email 2 weeks ago to chase it up and nothing back as yet!!

at my asda magic we had a brief presentation on the company - values, ethics etc - history of the store, then we had a couples task of chatting with neighbour and finding out 3 interesting things about them and what they would spend a lottery win on and why they want to work at asda.
After this was a group task to make a free standing structure from spaghetti and marshmallows, and to market it, sales pitch etc
a guided tour of the store
filling in forms indicating where and when you want to work.

then if successful you get called in for a one to one interview, was asked for examples of good service I had offered, bad things, how I would overcome xyz, that kind of thing.

    Good luck!

Yeah it'll be standard assessment centre format.

    Presentation
    Ice Breaker
    Core Task (Involvement)
    Sales Task
    Company Specific Finish

Hard to prepare for, but if I were you I would look at the company values as it will likely be surrounding these.

thanks for the replies but I can't help being of the opinion they make one heck of a lot of fuss over what is very menial low paid work to begin with, anyway, we'll see!

Menial? People on the receiving end of your customer service will not see it like that, I can assure you.

It's a lot of fuss because Asda still want the right people, even if the work is low paid. The variety of people who apply is huge. Some people are completely incapable of talking to customers well, or have absolutely no idea about how to practically solve a problem, or communicate. Asda have to check it out somehow, and far easier to do it with a large group of people and 1/2 assessors watching, then getting everyone in for an interview which is resource-intensive and involves a lot of administration.

If you go in with the attitude of 'it's a menial job', you may find yourself without an offer. ;)

' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".

There are 1000's unemployed, ASDA are going to take the best of them - why settle for any less?

You probably won't pass the day.
