Router problem - can't connect to ADSL

My brother hasn't been able to get onto the Internet for the past couple of days, so I thought I'd see if anyone can give any advice....

He's been with his ISP since last March. Yesterday morning he couldn't get onto the Internet, and discovered the "DSL" LED is blinking. He has a Voyager 240 router. The help file (which I have a copy of) suggests that the router has detected the ADSL line, but is failing to sync (whatever that means).

He's rebooted the router many times, he has taken the router downstairs to the main BT socket, he has swapped the micro-filter, he has checked the cables are not damaged, all to no avail.

He rang BT, and they apparently conducted some sort of test, and that passed (I presume this confirmed that there is a connection between the exchange and the main BT socket?).

This afternoon he rang his ISP's technical support, and apparently they conducted a similar test to BT, and confirmed that everything seems OK. They said to wait until tomorrow morning to see if the DSL light turns solid, and if not, to get back in touch. So far, it is still blinking, so we're not confident.

Does anybody have any suggestions as to where the fault could be? Could it be that both micro-filters are dodgy? Faulty router? What could suddenly go wrong like that?
Of course, I may just be talking b****cks!

assuming that the router hasn't lost any of it's settings, username/password etc.. probably a BT/isp fault.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

If the router is not getting a line sync then turn it off and unplug it from the ADSL line for at least 6 hours... This happens to me every so often and leaving it off overnight usually solves it.. My ISP (Ukonline) tell me its something to do with noise on the line and the router.
