Hi
I'm after a bit of advice... I've just got a new job which is involving me relocating but because of the nature of the job I'm not able to get much assistance from the company with regards relocation costs. I've got a house to sell (so agents and solisitors fees there) and I'm having to pay out a bond and a months rent in advance for a place near my new job. As i cant call any favors to help cover costs I'm looking into taking out a loan until I get the money from the sale of my flat to cover costs.
I've been on a number of price comparison sites and Northern Rock keeps coming out as offering the best loan rate. My reason for the cry for help is because they don't have a particularly good reputation with the people I know who have used them in the past and I was just after some advice from all you wonderful peeps
hope you can help

I've used them for my past 3 loans because they were the cheapest (or near enough).
They don't always offer you their best rate. It depends on how your credit score comes out.
Depending on who you deal with (if you apply by phone) they can be very pushy when it comes to the PPI. They get commision from it so they do try and get you to take it. If you're accepted for the loan, taking the PPI won't be a condition for the loan. Stand your ground if you don't want it.
Personally, I've had no problems with them, though I'm sure you'll soon read below those that have.Dave. :wave:0 -
Do any loan companies come out good?
It's all right when one want's to borrow the money, but when has to pay it back, o'h the company is outrageoues, we have to pay interest..
Err..that's how they make their money..
I had a 25K NR rock loan...I needed it quickly,.. they issued the next day (no chaps payment).. They've been okay.
How much do you need?0 -
I have just taken a loan with Northern Rock - Basically because they are the cheapest....
They were pushy with the PPI - But if you really don't need it then don't take it. Simple as that.
No other problems, money was in my account when they said it would be etc.0 -
Sorry to butt in on OP thread but are Northern Rock very strict with accepting for loans. Me and DH want a loan to consolidate debts into one place. Hubby has a good well paying job and i stay at home with the boys. I recently totally forgot to make a catalogue payment and did pay double as soon as i remembered. This has been only time something has not been paid on time. Will this go against me?? Also we look as if we don't have much left after bills which is why we want to consolidate. We are playing catchup wth finances as we had our wedding booked and hubby had to leave his job everything had to go on visa. We never claimed benefits as we didn't think we would be entitled as he had left of his own will because he hated it so much. He is an electrical engineer and it was 3 months before he got another job so skint wasn't the word. We just want to get our finances in order and then make overpayments as often as possible. Any advice on NR would be appreciated.

Probably not any more strict than any other of the major loan companies.
If you don't come out top with your credit score, it might just mean they offer you a higher rate, not their best one. The only way you'll find out is if you apply.Dave. :wave:0
