I would say £50 for holidays.

Also your car is costing nearly £300 a month, if you don't need it for work you may have trouble convincing the OR.

I live a 4 min drive from work granted. But I travel to and from my partners house around 3/4 times per week 26 miles away. I also have to pick my children up from an after school club which is an 8 mile round trip of an evening. It wouldn't make sense to make me get rid of my car to start using public transport everyday which would probably cost about the same. My car is only worth 200 quid at max by the way. I would just have to kurb the amount of fuel I guess.

Kepar pointed out that I may have a job on my hands convincing the OR to let me keep my car. As it states above I need it for various reasons and life would be made rather awkward for us without it.

Has anybody got some experiences to share regarding this subject?

    This is only surmising.
The OR may allow a car for the children but not give you a fuel allowance to see your partner. The OR could reduce your fuel to say £50 a month and you would have to find the rest from elsewhere.

How old are your children by the way?

I wish there was a way of finding out for definite, it's all a big worry, but yes I see what you are saying there.

    My children are 9.

Submit what you actually use now, with an explanation/justification if you feel one is needed.

(goes for most things on the I&E to be honest)

It's then in the examiner's court. They may reduce, or may not.

Well it's a tank of fuel each week, so £220.

Just have to wait and see I guess, my mind was set for this and now the doubt has crept back in :-(
  • My fuel costs for work (£250 per month) were refused, I had to send in documentation showing that my car was the most efficient method of travel to and from work so you may have a job convincing the OR that you need your car to see your partner.

What if I tell the OR that I plan to move in with my partner in a few months time again 16 miles away from work?

So what did you do, find the money from somewhere else? Did you get to keep your vehicle?
  • I sent them costs and also the time involved in getting to work and back via public transport, and also had to send in receipts to show how much I was spending on fuel each month, but this doesn't actually prove that you're spending the money on getting to work and back.

I had to find the extra money by cutting back on other things I basically have no social life whatsoever, I can't afford to go anywhere, and also stopped smoking as the £15 a week went on petrol. I was allowed to keep my car as I could prove I needed it for work. I also told them I use it to help my mum get shopping / to and from work etc and was told that how she gets to work isn't my responsibility.
