Hi there
I have lots of accounts on my credit file that were defaulted 5 years ago.
Due to lots of hard work and help from family I have now paid them all off but it doesnt look great with them all on my file.
Can I write to the companies and ask them to remove them from my file or is it a case of having to wait until they all fall off which will be October next year, however I am looking into getting a mortgage and could really do with getting rid of all these.
is there a standard letter that can be sent
Thanks in advance

You could ask, but honestly I doubt you would have much luck.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Thanks for that, just got different responses when searched on google, some saying they can get taken off if you ask nicely but others saying there is no chance.
Would you know if there is a standard letter to send?0 -

Honestly, I think both of those approaches are based on out of date info and/or incorrect assumptions about the law involved.
I think some people have had limited success in the past, but often more due to "pester power" than any foundation in law or consumer rights.
However, you should be given notice that they are to register a default in MOST cases. Note, I say MOST. NOT all.
Also have a careful read of this link:

If the creditors involved have acted markably outside those guidelines, then you may have a case.
If you need copies of documents (notice of intent to apply a default etc....) the a SAR under the data protection act to the issuing creditor is often the best way to go, rather than trying to incorrectly use the consumer credit act.
Good luck if you decide to try.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
