Do you mean Scottish Higher rather than "gcse?" In Scottish Higher a grade D is a mark of 45-49%
Whether it is a pass or fail is a matter of opinion. He got a Higher at level D. However he got less than 50% of the marks. I doubt if a Higher at level D in Hospitality and Cookery will gain entrance to any university, at least I hope it doesn't.0 -
Admittedly educated in England, and the first year of GCSE replacing O level, but C or above was equivalent to O level pass, anything less was basically a fail, but with GCSE that was the point, unless you got ungraded, no one actually failed... you just didn't gain the equivalent of an old style O level.
Not sure that helps but maybe!I will pay jexygirl the compliment of saying that she invariably writes a lot of sense!0 -
many thanks guys, he's 15 so is ordinary level, don't understand it much myself ( I'm an o'level type person, lol) hes staying on for 5th year but this is luckily not one of the subjects hes continuing with, just to say me and DH will not be asking him to cook for us anytime soon.0

If the Grades are alphbetical he has sat, Intermediate 1 or Intermediate 2 exams not Standard grades which are given numerical grades a 1 being the highest.0

yes it is intermediate exams, some are 1, some are 2, would appriciate if anyone can tell me the difference regarding this as would like to know how this will effect subjects he is studying this term, tried asking him and got my face chewed off.0

many thanks for that link Violetta, had a quick look at it, still no clearer to me, maybe need a drink or two in me first so will look again later. Take me back to the old o'level days, much easier to understand.0

The way I understand Int 1 and 2 is. The course detail between Intermediate and Standard grade exams are completely differant. However Int.1 is equivilant of a general pass in SG, and Int.2 is the equivilant of a Credit pass in SG.
Now in some subjects the Int.2 course sets pupils up better for their subsequent Highers in 5th year.
For example, my eldest did Int 2 English in 4th year and Higher in 5th. My youngest on the otherhand did SG 4th yr, Int 2 5th yr and will do his Higher this year.
If your son has done Int 1 in English he will do Int 2 next year and his Higher the following year.
I hope this helps.0
