Gross Income

How do I work this out? You have to put it onto credit card applications. But my payslip just has how much I've been pays so far this year. And I never worked for a full year last tax year, so I'm guessing that's not it. Can I just multiply my contracted hours by my hourly rate and put that down?

Yes, Gross is simply your salary pre deductions

Normally it would be on a pay slip at the top with tax, NI, pension contributions etc under it and then your net salary at the bottom. It should also be on your contract.

  • Well it had the gross at the bottom along with the net, but it's only for the pay period. It has a running total at the top, but it's only so far this year, so it won't be a full years pay 'til April. I do different hours all the time, so do I just do my contracted hours (35) because I almost always work more than that?

That's for 9 months (Apr - Dec inc)??

So divide the total by 9 .... multiply that by 12 ... then stick the result on your application;)

If you routinely do overtime etc then yes... if you had a one off for a month you are on more ropey grounds.

Never worked out how you are supposed to factor in annual bonuses into gross salary though

Strictly speaking, if you're not guaranteed to get bonuses/overtime in future, you should not include it, otherwise you can.

    Lie, everyone else does.

Gross Income = figure required to get the level of credit needed to live way beyond your net income.
