Debts in S.A

My husband and I were living in South Africa for a few years and accumulated quite a large amount of debts over there. We both lost our jobs and were unable to pay the minimum payments for several months. After months of looking for work, we eventually gave up and returned to the UK where we are both now employed. We still have the debts in South Africa and they are still calling to chase payment. The debts amount to around £8,000 and we are only able to save around £300 per month, however there is a £25 bank fee to transfer the money abroad, so we wondered if the best way would be to take a credit card or loan in the UK to pay all of the debts, and then repay £300 per month in the UK, or whether to save the £300 each month until we get enough for one debt, then pay that off in full, then save for the next debt, etc... If anyone has any suggestions, or even any other ideas, I am desperate to know what we can do!

Hi I am not totally sure and don't know if this is of any help to you but the Post office offer free overseas money transfers.

Also worth a look is Paypal.

Try shopping around different banks - you may find an account that doesn't charge for that type of transfer, or at least one which charges a lot less.0
