Tax Return For Deceased

Options
My mum passed away January this year, and she as been sent a Tax return to Personal Reprentative for............... .It covers the period up to her death in January. The problem is we never discussed her income,as i am her son i assume this falls on me to fill in.

Any idea on the correct way to approach this would be really appreciated,is it likely i could ask for a copy of her last tax return from last year to compare,i doubt her income would of changed.

Cheers

If you could get a copy of her tax return it would be a great help. Otherwise, how tricky this is depends on her income sources. If she was employed by anyone, or in receipt of a pension, they should produce a P45 for you. Investment income (non-property) - statements should now be coming to you from providers. If she had property income or self-employment income this could be tricky.

It doesn't necessarily fall on you just because you are her son.

Did anybody obtain grant of probate / letters of administration? If they did, then the executors / administrators are responsible.

She was not employed, but i know she did have a income from a rented dwelling, which as now switched to myself and my sister,so i know the amount involved. The executors of the will were myself and my sister, even though only i was present at the reading.

Probate is still ongoing, because of various issues, and i agree maybe the solicitors could handle this, but they wil no doubt charge me heavily for this,i would not imagine that her tax burden would be huge,as her only other income was her state pension.I assume her affairs would of been handled by a accountant, but i cannot find any details.I do not know how difficult it would be the obtain a copy from the previous year, but maybe its worth a try.

    Thankyou for your help.
