I am looking at starting some sort of home business that the wife and I can work together on and maybe involve the kids.
We have around $1500 (that should be a pound symbol but my keyboard does not have one) but could stump up a bit more for the right opportunity.
What do you reckon would be the way to go on this, obviously Ebay comes to mind but what to sell is a mind boggling thing Should we use the money in some other way???
We dont want to set the world alight on the profit front but if we can make some extra cash and start small with a view to growing if things work out this would be ideal.
Now, where is this gold lined opportunity?

The problem with ebay is that whatever you sell someone else seems to be selling the same thing only cheaper. I wonder how anyone makes a profit sometimes. I've bought in wholesale jewellery to sell on ebay but it's very slow. It's gradually going bit by bit but I wouldn't call it an income. I did also try selling dog products but came unstuck as the goods I bought wholesale simply weren't cheap enough to be competitive on ebay and I just didn't have the time to transport it round the dog shows. Also the ebay fees are very high and Paypal charges a lot as well. Having said that, some people make a good living out of it but I don't know where they source their goods. Could you start a market stall and do markets for a couple of days a week? I've known a few people who have made a very good profit selling such diverse things as fruit and veg, handbags, ladies underwear and flowers.Don't mess with pensioners. :cool:0

Maybe invest in purchasing some antiques and selling them at an auction. Or maybe even try an auction buy and sell there. ( Try a busy one)0

If you're thinking of ebay then start off by selling what you already have & don't use, that way you may find what's selling at the moment.
Buying in to sell on ebay could be tricky unless you have an unusual hobby where you can sell items that you know about & doesn't have a lot of competition at the moment.0 -
Hey Whitegloves,
Personally, if you've got a bit of capital then I'd avoid ebay or other high fee taking sites and set up your own site, you may as well set up properly!
You can get a decent site up and running for about £24 per month (sites like Shopify, SquareSpace and others) zero programming experience needed, all do pretty decent templates. You could get a bespoke site designed for under £1k.
Do you actually want to sell physical products or maybe even digital goods?
What are your interests? Do you have any skills? I could probably suggest quite a few things for you to start but if you have any special area of interest or expertise then this is even better!
