Free household battery recycling

I wanted to set up a free collection box for my workplace and although there are some schemes which will collect from schools and clubs for free (and sometimes even pay), nearly all of the other schemes are aimed at companies (such as retailers) that are legally obliged to offer a collection facility, and so they charge for the box or for collection/processing or both.

This is the only one I could find offering a completely free service to companies wanting to offer one voluntarily.

Well, the first company I mentioned never got back to me, but I did find an alternative who have now provided me with a free collection box and will collect free of charge: http://www.erp-batteries.co.uk/

  • My council has started to collect batteries (leave on top of bin in sealed plastic bag), so it might be worth pushing local councils to do the same - it can't be that much of an extra job for them but has a big "green" effect.
  • Why not try asking your local council if they would be interested in helping you with the scheme? - Can't hurt to ask right!
