What sort of debt was it?
Did the creditor ever confirm that the debt was written off? or did CAB just advise you not to pay it because you hadn't signed the agreement?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
You need to search for the prove it template letter and write to this company and say "provide me with the info you have on me and the orignal paperwork", however if they can prove they paid the money into your account then your on a downer, did you send the money back to them or did you spend it, if you spent it then you were aware they had paid you the loan / finance. If you knowingly took the money then its only fair you pay it back.0

Is this a debt collector writing to you? or the original creditor?
First off try the prove it letter (sending recorded is best) - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=11570893&postcount=2
And see what they reply with - if they provide proof of the debt you could then try a CCA request (this asks for a copy of the consumer credit agreement - it may be CAB has already got you to send one of these but if you are not sure then you could send again).
At the moment, don't call them, don't pay them and in the unlikely chance anyone comes to your door simply ask them to leave - or you could send this letter to stop any chance of them visiting - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=23635529&postcount=59A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
