Bad Credit and working in finance sector

I've just had an interview at Santander, it went really well. They're doing final reference and credit checks

I have NO CCJ's and I'm not Bankrupt but I do have a few defaults, could this effect me getting the job? :\

It will depend on the organisation and the role. Certainly with other financial services company it would cause you to fail screening even if you were applying to be a cleaner. In others I have known people employ bankruptee's as sales managers but had to amend contracts etc to get it through.

It was a CSA in a call centre, I wouldn't actually be working in the bank itself. It looks like I need to look elsewhere :(

I suppose it must vary between companies but I was finished at a pensions company doing very basic call centre work because I didn't pass the credit check.

Hey Im not sure if it will affect you getting the job but I do know that I got a CSA job with RBS a few years ago and passed a credit check even though I had a default.

If you had one default that was more than 3 years that might not be a big problem however as you have a few defaults that might be seen as more serious.

But why would a few defaults mean someone is not capable of doing a call centre job?

If you are working in a call centre on behalf of a bank you will have access to financal information and if you have more then one default it shows that you have financial problems in the past.

Banks do not want to give full bank accounts and sometimes basic accounts to people who have adverse credit so they may not want someone working in their call centre that has a history of defaults.

I had a few defaults in the past and I did not past credit checks when I had adverse credit. My credit file is fine now because the defaults have dropped off.

I worked at Capital One and all they asked about was CCJ's and bankruptcy - and all they asked was that we were honest about CCJ's and even that wouldnt necessarily be a barrier to employment. I did have one (from nearly 11 years ago now) but they said they didnt need to know about that as it was over 6 years.
