Self Assesment Student Loan Question

in Cutting tax
Hi, Sorry if this is not the correct place.
I have a quick question in regards to Self Assesment. I have just finished my tax return, filled in for a grand total of £28 of income from mystery shopping (I got into it, but lost interest, story of my life). The total profit was £6 and the amount of tax they required was £1.80, which seemed fair.
However there was also a line:
+Student Loan Payments = £283
Now I think I understand why this is, as my student loan payments only started in June this year, and that figure would roughly equate to 2 months payments, so I'm not objecting to paying it.
My question is, will that figure go to paying off my student loan, don't really want the tax man to take it as extra tax. Wat to make sure it is going to be deducted from my outstanding loan balance. The SA form isn't very clear about this and seems to group it in as extra tax owed.
Thanks

It is also worth checking that your SL payments to HMRC have been recorded by the SLC. Check the dates and amounts carefully when you eventually get your annual Student Loan Statement.0
