Fallen in love with 'Global' knifes, help cheaper alternative needed!

Hello,
I'm currently house-sitting for a friend (last month) and have fallen in love with his Global Cromova knife set. They are brilliant and a joy to use and am not looking forward to going back to my old sh*|#y knifes.
Now being a bit of a moneysaver I finding it hard to justify spending £350+ on fancy branded Japanese steel,
Is there an equivalent quality brand but with a more realistic price?
Thanks,
Ash

Global dont have to be that expensive. I have two, a 3" paring knife and a 7" cooks knife. These cost about £30 and £65 respectively. Expensive, yes but as I expect them to last a lifetime a sound investment. Make sure you invest in a decent steel too or find a good local knife sharpener.0

Have a look in TK Maxx. They often sell B grade knives at knockdown prices. I got a Henckels Chef's knife from my local branch for £13. The only thing I can find wrong with it is that the printing on the side of the blade is slightly off otherwise it's a brilliant knife.

Alternatively try Victorinox. They're decent quality. Not as good as Globals admittedly but a lot cheaper. Amazon have a decent range although I'd recommend buying in store so that you can judge the weight and feel of the knives.
