Selling cakes- has anyone done it?

Hello
after a resounding success last week with my carrot cake in a friends gathering (even my yoga teacher had seconds, and that is unprecedented), my OH suggested that it was as good as if not better the posh cakes sold in fancy cafes and that I should capitalise on it.
So, it got me thinking: has anyone done this and how did they go about it? I don't want to start a business Aprentice-style, but I love baking and if i could do it and charge for it, it would be great.
How does one starts spreading the word around?
Any tips appreaciated...

My friend owns a cupcake business and she's always fully booked, she did a stall at our bowling alley market and got a load of new customers and sold most of her stock. Do a survey, see if theres any other mums doing this.New year, new comper here!
