try growing things yourself too :) Salad leaves and spinach are easy as pie, a very cheap to do, lots of people do other veg like potatoes in a bin/ tomatoes in gro bags, courgettes in pots etc. V cheap to get started too :)
We have a massive garden which has a lovely veg patch. BUT!!! We are useless at growing veg. We have tried every year since moving here almost 4 years ago but are completely and utterly useless.
We have managed to grow tomatoes, cucumbers, strawberries and raspberreis though so perhaps we will get better in time

i have to say, you are probably not as useless as me at growing stuff- everything of mine dies!!!! BUT i have been very successful in growing rocket and this year am intending to branch out into all sorts of other salad leaves.

i'm interested to hear he's allergic to corn flour. has he had allergy tests done? is it actually cornflour or is it gluten or corn he's allergic to? i now have to avoid wheat and gluten and yes, it is difficult and expensive. am currently using free-from range for things like bread - but at £1.99 for a small loaf of bread it doesnt make economic sense. i am going to buy wheat & gluten free flour and start baking my own stuff like bread. perhaps it would be helpful for you to look into that? i cant find any flour in shops but there are several places online u can order it from. also, have now got several cookbooks for wheat and gluten free diets which gives ideas for ordinary recipes that dont require special, expensive ingredients but are safe to eat.

also - has he been tested for things like coeliacs disease?

finally, (sorry to waffle so much) i understand that you can get things like wheat free flour and special milk on prescription from your doctor which would work out much cheaper for you. good luck!

    Thanks
I will get in touch with them as dealing with him makes everyday life difficult. I was unaware that they could help us without a diagnosis and was told that I didn't need them to get involved unless one was made.
Hopefully they can help us as I can't cope with everything. Unfortunately debt has been the lowest priority with everything that has been going on.
I just don't want to have to answer the phone to credit card companies anymore and I don't want to have to worry about that all the time as other things are much more pressing.
    I will take your advice
    Thanks

A tip I was given by the CCCS was to tell the creditors you have no means of phone contact, and they must correspond by letter - this reduced my daily calls from 3-4 to zero. BT also offer free BT Privacy, which is caller ID - if you don't know the caller, don't answer the phone.

As for the organic veg - keep an eye on Tesco, they have promised to half the price of 5 different fruit / veg items every week for all of 2007.
  • I don't buy organic meat as he will eat very little of it so for the small amount that he has it just doesn't seem worth it.

I am keeping him on follow-on baby milk under the advice of his doctor until he is 2yrs. Which costs a fortune!

I will find out about veg delivery that sounds like a good idea thanks

You can get Baby Soya Formula on perscription free from your GP if your son had health problems!

CCCS originaly suggested i go for a IVA

I took out a DMP with them instead,as i thought that the IVA would be to restricting.{And with the news yesterday that 30.000 people are going to go insolvent within the next 3 months, they mentioned that banks and cc are going to start cracking down harder].

Anyway i have made my second payment to them and everything seems to be ok.Only one of my creditors refused the DMP.But they said i shouldnt panic about this.
  • You can also get rusks ordered in from boots can't remember the name as it was over 10 years ago. Is there a chance he may grow out of some of the problems. My son was born prem he couldn't have milk or wheat at all for the first year as he became ill. Over his second year they introduced things to his diet while the hospital ran tests and kept an eye on him (they were wonderful). He can eat most things now.

  • Thanks for the advice
I will ask the doctor at his next appointment.
As for the cornflour we narrowed it down to this as lots of different things such as babyfood etc where making his excema worse and the only thing that linked each of them was the cornflour. When we cut out the cornflour his excema improved.
I will ask about the tests as well.
We make our bread in the breadmaker so if it is a wheat problem then making bread would not be a problem.
    Thanks

Hi there PP,prescription formula is only given for baby's first year,we had this problem with DD,GP said that formula milk isn't needed for a child over 1,they can just have normal soya milk.I argued with the doctors, but they wouldn't budge on this.

  • We were really worried about losing the holiday in september as it is not only for us but for my in-laws too. We have gone to the cccs again and they have found that we can find £59 per month to go towards a debt payment plan.
We have decided to do this for a while to see if we can manage it. We will have a rethink after we come back from our holiday.
We are also going to try and reclaim bank charges as this is a big reason that we are in so much debt.
Thanks so much for all your advice.
