Buying dresses for kids

How far in advance is everyone ordering dresses for any children they may have in the bridal party?
I'm having my sister (aged 8, 9 in Jan) and OH's niece (aged 5, 6 in Feb) as flower girls, and as kids grow so quick, unsure when to order their dresses - our wedding is in May.

If you get an off the peg dress from BHS or similar I'd just get them a few weeks before. Or are you ordering a made to measure dress? What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0

I'm having a bridesmaid who'll be 11 by June when I get married. I plan on buying her dress(in an adult size, she's quite tall) in the sales in a size larger than she needs and then getting my tame dressmaker to adjust it nearer the time.

I'm not sure if getting off the peg, or made to measure yet. Prob off the peg, so could leave it a good while yet.0

Got married at the end of April. Bought flowergirl dresses (for a 4-year old and a 7-year old) in mid-March. Decided specifically not to get made to order as the bridal shop needed around 6 months notice to be sure of getting them in (apparently...) and that was far too long.0
