yes certainly! dont serve it the way I was once served it in a local hotel as the veggie option for a xmas meal. it came with boiled potatoes, carrots, cabbage, a yorkshire pudding (filled with gravy btw) and a roasted potato. I couldnt eat it and had to leave early to go get a takeaway!!.
Really sticks in my memory that does! so I am always real careful about 'composing' the dish!0 -
Mine is similar to the one posted by spike but I don't use brandy in mine I use vegetable stock instead. I was going to serve with rice but forgot I am making a curry on thursday so may try the mash that's with spike's recipe .
I put leek in mine too.0 -
Always_Alone - if you want a simple staightforward recipe (they are the only kind I can manage), this is the one I use.
Chestnut mushrooms, onion, creme fraiche, wholegrain mustard and salt and pepper.
Fry the onion in a little oil. Add the mushrooms until cooked enough, then add the creme fraiche and the wholegrain mustard. Salt and pepper to taste.
Serve with rice or whatever you fancy!

If I make a stroganoff (usually beef as I am not vegetarian but didnt fancy having to eat three turkey dinners in a row) then I use a simple pepper sauce recipe. with lots of cream! and FRESH mushrooms (not tinned like that darned hotel).0
