I am teacher and I have been waiting for the summer holidays to get going on some wedding prep. Got engaged on my birthday (19th March) so I have been dying to get going.
Progress so far this week:
*Written guest list (we are getting Married in Spain so this is just for the guest we are inviting out there)
*Made contact with the hotel and provisionally booked the date (no deposit as yet - going out next week for 2 weeks and will set the firm date then)
*Collated everyone's names and address
*Made save the date stickers which look like postcards. Will buy postcards when out there next week, stick on the stickers and then send them out from Spain. 'Wish you were here. You can be next year etc...'
*Found a wedding dress and paid deposit
*Arranged date for bridesmaid dress shopping on return from holidays.
So we are nearly a year to the day (7th August 2012) what else should I be doing?
What should my priorities be for the next month or so? I find it hard doing things when at work as it is so time consuming. Need to get as much sorted in the 6 weeks as possible.
Thanks all

Congrats!
Whilst it's the school hols, I suggest that you book an appointment to give notice of marriage, then at least it's done and dusted - I'm doing that next Wednesday as I too have been waiting for the school holidays to get it sorted
However, it sounds like you're well on track with sorting things

Thanks you. Good advice-does it not matter how much in advance you do this? Also where do I book an appointment? Daft question but not sure how to do that.0 -
You can do it between a year and 2 weeks before the wedding... So the earliest you can give notice is the 8th August 2011 (as it'll run out at midnight on 7th August 2012, your proposed wedding date.)
You have to book an appointment at your local registrar's office, don't know where you're based but I'm in Brum so am giving notice there despite getting married in Cheshire
Hope that helps.
Also it's not a daft question as I had no idea either but the lovely people on here told me what to do

Hi have literally just come back from registry office to make appointment on my lunch hour! It's very easy, I just went in and asked! U just need to know when u r getting married, where etc. U can do it up to a year before, and the person I made the apt with was thrilled that I was doing it so early!! (no idea why?!?) but has to be at least 17 days before the wedding.
However, I don't know if u have to do it tho, as u r getting married abroad??? Anyone help out here?:T0 -
Thanks ladies! This might sound strange but we are considering getting married in the UK before we go as getting married in Spain is quite tricky. However our other option is Gibraltar. This will all be decided once we've been on holiday as the hotel will help with the legalities etc...
I wonder how many other things will come as a total surprise before the big day - I imagine quite a few!0 -
Hi,
Congratulations:j
I was going to say have you looked into the legal requirements & paperwork you need for marrying in Spain, but from your last post sounds like you have. We don't have to give notice as we are marrying in Greece but we do need to get a certificate of no impeedment(sp) so guess it might be the same.
Sounds great anyway.Married the man of my dreams - 10th September 2012, St Paul's Bay Lindos :jIt was amazing.

Getting married in Gibraltar is very straight forward. You need original birth certificates, passports, any marriage, divorce or death certificates. You can email scanned copies over and provisionally book your wedding. If it is the registary office it's just over £100. Weddings at the registary office are conducted in the morning.
Once provisionally booked you need to go to gibraltar no later than 24 hours before your intended marriage to get your special licence along with the orginal certificates..
I know this, because I have just done it. I am divorced, my other half is widowed. I scanned the originals and then provisionally booked the registary office. This was done all by email. I am not leaving it till 24 hours before because the traffic getting accross the border into Gibraltar can be quite heavy and as we need to be there before 10.30. The day of the wedding I have booked a hotel just 7 miles away so no hurrying.
I just wanted a quiet simple service which would be about us. Money saving you bet. We were already going to Spain on holidays staying at a friends house so not extra cost there. Just the fuel to get to Gibraltar (she has a car we can use when we are there) the cost of the ceremony, dupliate licenses and the hotel the night before (which I booked last night on late rooms 4 star B&B £51) No dressing up, no photographer, just us commiting to each other....................perfect!!:rotfl: l love this site!! :rotfl:0
