Online food shopping- best value for money?

I use sainsburys online, I've always found them to be very helpful, most times they are bang at the beginning of the delivery slot for me, but that may be cause I'm only about 5minutes drive from the store. Just feeding myself, I find my average weekly spend is £20ish, including delivery. Mostly basic range, I think they have the best basic range from the point of view of quality and variety0

Before you say they are way more expensive I would say that with a bit of faffing around on the site you CAN find bargains and now I compare my shopping with Tesco and Asda before I submit it (I know - I'm a bit anal about it but I've got the time....) and the last 5 or 6 times it has been cheaper - not by much but the quality of what I get is far superior.
I had an order today and got a 1kg pack of outdoor reared pork shoulder steaks for £5, a 1.5kg pack of chicken thigh fillets for £6, loads of packs of Always at £1 each (couldn't find them on offer ANYWHERE else!), Tampax compaq for £2 a pack, Cravendale milk 2 for £3, 400g pack of red leicester for £2.80 (this is so much nicer than other supermarket red leicester) and other stuff which was mostly ocado own or essential waitrose. I like it so much that I have now subscribed to their delivery service for £3.99 a month so now I don't pay for any individual deliveries any more.
I'm also fed up with the Power Three, and have no car to drive to Morrison's etc, I'd love to shop at Ocado but unfortunately they don't deliver in my area (semi-rural Village)
I will keep checking and hope one day they will! Saving as much as possible to replace all the things I've had years and are on their way to the knackers yard :eek:0 -
You know, you will get mixed reviews because it all depends on where you live, where your shopping comes from, who is running your local service etc etc. My advice would be to try them both to see which is best for you, maybe one this month & the other next month.
For me, Tesco's have always been super. Always on time, 99% of the time in the first 15 mins of the time slot, excellent helpful drivers, rare but good subs & so on.
Since the Ocado fiasco I've also used them (three times now) & will continue to do so for the odd low value (well, the £40 mark which is their minimum order)shop, maybe once a month, for some items that are unique to Ocado.
No real complaints. they've been fine on the whole with regards to deliveries...but the Tesco drivers in general have been better. I've also been surprised by the very short dates on a lot of their fresh foods. I've actually had to bin stuff from Ocado's, which I've never done with Tesco's, so I'll be very careful with what I buy from them from now on.
Also, yes they are more expensive. Again it will depend on what you buy as they Tesco price match on many branded goods, but then again, I only tend to buy some branded goods when they are on offer. For example, Finish dishwasher tabs are often half price at Tesco for £6.49 & I may buy then, but they will always be £12.98 at Ocado. Even when they seem similar prices, be careful with things like the weight, as Ocado products will often be smaller.
Basically, it's just a case of shop around & see what works best for you.:)0 -
Ocado offer the best delivery service around here by far. (We could write a book about the others!)
We've used their delivery service since Feb 2006, so that must say something about them.
Deliveries have always been on time* and the drivers are polite. [*During the extreme wintry weather they've always managed to get here, with only one delay, and they phoned to explain the situation - we had a hot drink and a snack ready for the driver to take with him!]
Substitutions are rare events and we've never had to throw anything away due to poor quality or short dates. Trust us, we're picky and if Ocado didn't come up to scratch then we'd tell them.
Okay, it's no secret - we buy own brands as far as possible, which helps stretch the grocery budget, but then we'd do this wherever we shopped. Also, when items are on offer then we stock up as much as funds will allow which, again, helps stretch the budget.
Subscribing to Ocado's 'Delivery Pass' saves £s on delivery charges and the minimum order value of £40 makes it possible to have smaller orders delivered more often, which in turns means fresher food.
Ordering from Ocado works well for us.#Life isn't about waiting for the storms to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain #We must be willing to let go of the life we planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us #If you focus on what you have left behind, you will never see what lies ahead - Gusteau/RatatouilleGC 2022: £0/£2,500 total spend0 -
Have you considered Waitrose? I think it is a bit of a myth that their stuff is always more expensive (depends what you buy, of course!) - I think they are excellent value - fresh stuff is always fresh, substitutions are rare, delivery is free with a minimum order of £50 and the service is outstanding. The delivery drivers are always prompt, friendly and helpful - cheerfully carry my order to the kitchen, etc. I have tried Tesco, Asda and Sainsury's on several occasions over the years, but always regret it and go back to Waitrose. I use tescos, there is not too much difference in the prices between asda and tesco unless one store has something on offer the other one doesnt, so buy when things are on offer and the amount of extra points codes and money of vouchers you can use on tescos website are endless (last month i had £10 off a £50 order this month i had a £15 off a £50 shop) plus their 2 clubcard points per £ adds up, and i normally save mine till they do their clubcard exchange at the end of the year and then double it up on toys for xmas.
Their delivery have normally been on time and have all my items apart from once or twice, on the rare occasion they havent been on time/left something in the van i have phoned customer service and have received £10-£20 off my next shop and my delivery charge refunded for the inconvenience.SPC Member#1096 Target £150 Feb Count £82.18

I have only used online delivery twice (tesco and asda) both experiences were pretty bad. With asda there were so many important items missing and poor substitutions, with tesco the fruit and veg looked awful, really bruised and battered, most of it had to be thrown. I also got overcharged and we had to ring up twice to get it sorted. The first time we were told to send them an email of our on line receipt (no idea why - but it was completely ignored), so we had to chase it up again. We did get a refund in the end but it was a hassle. Its put me off.0

I wonder how it's possible to get free delivery from either Saisburys, Tescos or Waitrose. I'm considering online shopping. Does anyone know anything? TIAIf you feel my post has been useful, " merci" would not go amiss.

The Sainsburys near me does free delivery on ALL orders over £100 but I'm led to believe that it's normally Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday in some areas. The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0
