Are they allowed to chase me for this???

I recently started a 5 a side team at Goals Soccer Centres in Hull.

I was on holiday for one of the games, and left the responsibility of the team with a friend (huge mistake).

When I came back, I had found out that my team hadn't turned up for the game and I had a voicemail from Goals saying I owed £33 in match fees and we couldn't play again till it was paid for.

Me and my friends argued over them not turning up, so the team got cancelled without paying the £33.

They have now sent me a letter requesting the outstanding amount, which I ignored as I don't see how a 5 a side soccer centre can chase me for money?

They have now sent me a letter saying the debt is going to be passed to their collectors after 'four reminder letters', which I only received one letter!

I know its only £33, but I don't want to held accountable for my friends not being friends, if you catch my drift.

Any help would be much appreciated! :)

Doesn't matter who's fault it was really. That's not the concern of the club. I take it there is an agreement in place etc that states any team not turning up is liable for the full match fees?
  • Yeah, I signed a few things not expecting anything like this to happen, which is silly of me but I'm known for putting my neck on the line for my friends.

Being young and naive, I've got a lot to learn! :(

I'm guessing there's no way out of this then?

If there's an agreement, then no, I can't see a way out other than paying the fee really.

You should pay it for your own financial future you don't want a default on your file no matter how small. Pay the £33 then chase your friend for the money

Look at it this way hon - regard this as a learning experience and never mix money and these friends again.

It's ONLY cost you £33 to find out who your real friends are. You can now class yourself as young and "no-longer naive".
