Yes ebay fees are very high. I sell on there for my full time income and by the time ebay and everyone elses fees have all come off, I'm making next to nothing on most items. On average, it costs 40p to list an item on buy it now or 10p if you have a basic shop (as I do) and they take an average of 10% off your final selling price for fees. Then you have paypal fees on top of that

BUT my business wouldn't have started if it weren't for ebay, so I thank them very much for the opportunity, I just wish they didn't take so much of my profit from me

Good luck if you decide to sell on there. Or also check out ebid, etsy and folksy, or Gumtree & Craigslist

I've tried ebid a few times but have never managed to sell anything through them. You can usually list things on ebay for free at a starting price of 99p if you're making or selling small items. I wait for the free listing weekends and then put up a load of auctions all at once. The selling fees are very steep at 10% and I notice some people have started listing small items for 99p and then adding £11 or £12 postage. Paypal charges a percentage on the whole income from a sale, that's the selling price and the postage. You need to buy or make things really cheaply to make a profit. The best way to find out about fees is to go to the ebay help pages.
    Don't mess with pensioners.

Unfortunately if you're selling items that you've made or bought to sell, you're a business seller.
So won't be eligible for free listings at all.
A basic shop may work out cheaper, but you'd need to check the fees pages.
