One for the ladies - menstrual cups

If you don't know about menstrual cups see this article from - What Are Menstrual Cups? Basically they're internal sanitary protection which is safer/healthier, more hygienic, more convenient, more reliable than tampons, along with a whole host of other benefits.

Reason for posting this here is that menstrual cups are a HUGE saving ladies!

Always Ultra Towels Wings @ £ 2.09 for 14, 20 per period = £2.99
Pads over ten years = £358.80
Tampax Pearl Tampons @ £2.99 for 20, 20 per period = £2.99
Tampons over ten years = £358.80
Mooncup Menstrual Cup over ten years = £21.99

Cups can be worn with any flow, overnight and before menstruation, they also don't leak like tampons so no need to buy multiple absorbencies, pads for overnight, pads/liners for light flow or before your period, or pads/liners as back-up. Cups can lessen cramps too so may save you in painkillers too. So they're FAR cheaper. I've used menstrual cups for nine years and would NEVER go back to tampons or pads, and they've saved me an absolute fortune!!

At Boots a Mooncup menstrual cup is £21.99 - but from their web site Mooncup's only cost £19.99 (including postage).
If you also go via this link - Mooncup.co.uk - 20% of the sale goes to support women's health projects.

  • There is a massive thread about Mooncups somewhere here on MSE (green living perhaps?) that I seem to recall being very popular - may be worth merging them together x
  • I love my moon cup. There are other makes and models though.

Oh, sorry I searched and didn't see a post on cups.

Perhaps it will be on green living, I popped it here as I think that more women would appreciate the health/convenience/reliability/economical benefits...in my opinion there's too much focus on green benefits of cups, which is a shame as many women rule-out the idea of cups because they view them as 'something for hippies' as a result.

Just found a good site with reviews of a number of different menstrual cups at http://menstrualcups.wordpress.com/
