Anyone tried linen bath towels?

I accidentally discovered the existence of linen towels and I am intrigued...

..these look just the job for the shabby chic look I know many folk here enjoy. I would love to know if anyone has actually used a linen towel and what you thought of it. If it is soft and absorbant then it could be a good idea, being thin it should be much easier to dry in winter than a thick traditional towel.

I don't use them at home but I have very similar towels from Turkey. They sell them in places like the White Company. I use mine as a beach towel as it's very light to pack, easy to dry etc. Basically, it's like an enormous tea towel. The only drawback I can see is that in this climate you wouldn't get the cossetted feeling that wrapping in a fluffy towel gives you.

My husband loves them,he'd rather dry himself on what I think resembles sandpaper compared to a lovely fluffy towel.
They last forever.
You just use and wash them like normal towels.
Mind you he does have lovely soft skin so maybe they do a very good job exfoliating while drying.

I've used linen towels in Italy, where of course they dry very quickly in the heat, but can't say that I overly like them as they get fully wet almost as soon as you use them and imho don't dry as well as our usual thicker towels.

That must be a bloke thing - my DH likes using line-dried towels because they are stiff, cardboardy and scratchy. A friend of his said the same thing. My DDs and I prefer using fluffy towels.

I'm another 'weird' one who likes line dried stiff towels , find they dry better ! Rest of the family prefer fluffy towels however....

ive been looking for towels like these for many years. on holiday in hotels on the continent thats the sort of towel they use and they are far superior for drying than our fluffy ones, plus obviously much easier to wash and dry. i have tried looking for the exact ones i want for years and years and never really found them. i want white ones which are not linen exactly but like thick cotton, like smooth tea towels. and they have to be the right size

You do know that you should never use fabric softener when washing towels as it stops them absorbing water.

I do prefer a towel that dries properly rather than one that feels soft.

My husband says he prefers the towels line dried BUT I'm sure it's because it costs too much to tumble dry them :rotfl:
