Ciba Vision - Opinions?

Evening,

Just started wearing contact lenses after wearing glasses for over ten years and I'm after other peoples opinions. I've been wearing Ciba Vision Dailies AquaComfort Plus and I've got plenty to go at but I've noticed they also offer a slightly cheaper product called the Ciba Vision Focus Dailies All Day Comfort.

I'm wondering if anyone could share their opinion on how well they fare against the others, I'm obviously going to try some for myself but just wondered how others find them.

Comments

  • I'm a regular user of the Focus lenses, I can't compare them to the AquaComfort Plus as I've not used them, but I find that I prefer them against the other brands I've used in the past (Pro Clear, Coopervision). I don't wear lenses every day, maybe once or twice a week. So for around £18 from ASDA for 2 boxes of 30 lenses, it's a good buy for me.

They feel thinner and less 'rubbery' than other brands... easier to take out too! They're not made to hold as much moisture as the others and I have dry eyes and find that I need to use lens-friendly eye drops if I'm wearing them for longer than 4-6 hours, they will then last me 8-10 hours. The thinness makes them slightly more susceptible to accidental tearing tho, but on the positive side, they have a better "barely there" feeling than the others.

    :) HTH

Absence is as important as abundance.

Aqua comfort plus is the newest version of the focus daily (essentially version 3), all day comfort is an earlier version (version 2), hence inferior and cheaper. You may find it less comfortable, but there is only one way to find out, go to see your optician and get a trial. You can't just swap one for another, they have different fitting characteristics - (base curve, diameter and material are all different) - an optician needs to look at it on your eye to check suitability.

That said, all day comfort is likely being phased out now - we don't sell it any more, just aqua comfort plus.

I find a lot of my patients prefer the All Day Comfort Dailies. A couple of years ago, Ciba did a forced upgrade promotion and a lot didn't like the Aquacomfort Plus lenses. They feel great at 1st, but the effect wears off as the moisturisers leach out of the lens material.

nedmundo have you heard anything confirming the post by tidus suggesting a current phasing out of Focus Dailies All Day Comfort Dailies?

No - I have very few patients on Ciba lenses, so I'm usually the last to find out.

Interesting, never thought of it like that. Do you not sell them due to them being phased out or just because nobody seems to buy them anymore?

    Keep em' coming guys!

I don't know what Ciba's long term plan is, but they don't sell the original version of Focus Daily any more, so ultimately they will want everybody switched over to the newest (and better in theory) version. There will be a transition period of course, which is probably right now!

I don't sell them because my company now sells aqua comfort plus at the same price as we sold all day comfort, so no need to. All my focus daily customers and switched to the new version, and I can only think of one or two people who prefered the earlier version (in contrast the Ned's experience!)

Think I'll just stick with the latest one then, to look at though you wouldn't think they're phasing out the other ones.

    Thanks!
