in Cutting tax
Hello
I have a tax refund question
I was contacted by the entitelments agency about claiming back some tax on tools ect for the past ten years.
To cut the story short I have had several p800's from the tax man telling me I am due repayment of £3816 :j
Then I get a letter from the entitlments agency with a cheque telling me I am due £1583
which they then take 25% + vat which I was aware of
I was told when I spoke to the rep that the inland revenue would pay me then I would have to pay them , how come they have been payed instead of me and have they robbed me of the extra ?
I have tried phoning HM revenue and customs but have spent over an hour on hold trying to get through.

Normally with these cowboys you would have signed an authority that the refund would be paid direct to them......you 100% sure you didn't?0

You can complain to your local trading standards; they may think you foolish however to use someone to advise you who is totally unqualified so you have no professional body to complain to.0

I am unsure if I "signed an authority" I don't mind them taking their payment then paying me , it saves me doing it.
What I am more worried about is the that figure they quote differs so much from the p800's I was sent by IR0 -
Ok I have been informed that p800's roll over rather than add up individually.
So the entitlements agency figure was correct, it was my maths that was wrong.
Sorry for asking a daft question.0 -
When you claim back tax over several tax years you get a P800T for each, the thing is the "refund" at the bottom of each one is carried forward into the next year's statement so the total refund is usually at the bottom of the most recent one. The way HMR&C express this on these forms ins't good and lots of people get confused by it, add them all up expect the refund to be the total of all the P800Ts.
Doesn't tie with explaination you have had but if you phone HMR&C they should be able to tell you how much the refund they actually paid was. If it's short of the amount the Entitlelments Agency have paid take it up directly with HMR&C and ask where they have paid it. I'm pretty sure there is no differnence because if a bigger refund was due the Entitlements Agency would follow it up so they could claim commission on it.
Sorry - didn't read the last one. Problem is with the P800Ts though HMR&C really need to sort this out in my opinion.0
