I think these are hilarious too! :rotfl::rotfl:
They might have changed the age range now but you previously couldnt use these for tiny babies as they can choke on the teat. (I found that out after almost choking my niece with one when she was about a month oldwhoops.)

There is a good facebook page called Bespoke plaques and letters by Vicki which do wooden baby names and initials in different colours. There are some with stickers and things on which I dont personally like but some of the ones that are just painted in baby colours looks lovely. Here is the link

How about these, you might have to make them (recipe and instructions can be found in book called Planet cake)

you can start them in any month so they are good for recording 'firsts' aswell.0 -
I always buy a large keepsake box but I just emailed the lady that sells them and she is having a problem with her supplier at the moment. I'm gutted as I have my first baby in December and really wanted one. Hope she has some instock by then.0

after having my own two DS, this is now my usual new baby gift -
You can sometimes find them in Asda or Tesco but they sell out quick. They always have them in Jojomamabebe although I think they might cost about £1 more.
I tend to do a little weaning pack containing, the snack catcher, disposable paper bibs for when out & about (can get from Tescos) a plastic long sleeved bib and if I can find them cheap enough small lidded pots that you can freeze meal sized portions & put in the microwave. As most people forget that a newborn baby does not stay "newborn" for very long.
I have bought this doll for my all of my Niece's first Christmasses -
Baby Stella. she is really cute & comes with a magnetic dummy. You can also buy tons of accessories & clothing.
Otherwise if you want more of a keepsake type gift, look on etsy (US based) folksy (UK based) both sell stuff that the sellers have made themselves.0
