Is Tesco Air Miles conversion worth it?

I need to pay for a family of four to come over from the states in October. Now I normally use experian / travelocity to grab some good prices, but I was wondering whether it was worth "agressively" collecting Air Miles to pay for the flights.

No I know that Tesco > MFI is usually the done thing (until April :( ), and that Air Mile's costs for flights (when tallied up) are comparitively expensive but has anyone ever made the switch and got a good deal?

Failing that, I may just use the strong pound to buy the flights in the states and use my Egg Money card for the cashback! :)
