I don't really drink much - occasional bottle of cider from the supermarket when I feel like it, or drinks when out for an event. Not really in the habit of the pub as tend to go to friends or a restaurant, and usually just have soft drinks. Supermarket goes under groceries if it's just for me, if buying for a party or when out it goes under entertainment.
I guess it all depends what you enjoy most - I don't miss alcohol, but there is no way I'd give up my chocolate budget

I don't 'budget' for alcohol as such. What I do is give myself £100/week to cover *all* expenses - clothes, groceries, entertainment, the lot. If I have a big weekend planned, I shop accordingly so I have a decent budget for it.
I usually buy a bottle of single malt or a good rum every few months - £20-30 from the market, and lasts long enough that I currently have about 15 bottles of single malts in various states of consumption. If I'm doing a big enough shop to justify a taxi home, I'll usually throw a case or two of beer in the trolley too, and I go to the pub 2-3 times a week (probably likely to go up next week when footy starts again!) for 2 pints or so at a time.0 -
Op if you're saving towards a deposit on your first home i think things like booze (and cigs) would be the first to go.
I probably drink less in a year than many have over the weekend.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

I know to the penny what I spend on everything in life, my spend throughout the year on the 'pop' was £3131.95 in 2010 and so far this year £1886.53, it is always skewed towards the summer as I play cricket twice a weekend.
So an average of £8.58 a day in 2010 @ on average £2.70 a pint = 3.17 pints a day, and thus far in 2011, £8.77 a day = 3.25 pints a day.
Hardly an alcoholic
Big cricket win in the League on Saturday resulted in £38.53 being spent, top night0
