Thank you all for your comments. I need to point out to those who are starting he journey that you must never give up. I got hundreds back from Bank of Scotland and Bank of Scotland Card Services because I persisted - even when they said they didn't give discounts or settlement figures.
I found one more wee small debt this morning. A ground rent bill for £40. It's paid now. Meanwhile the Memsahib has been buying new light fittings and other goodies for our home which we couldn't and wouldn't buy when we owed other people money.
It can be done. It only took us a year and I am a War Pensioner so there is hope for everybody. Just don't give up.0
