''debt'' recovery from Fairfax solicitors!

Hi. I am currently being pursued by fairfax solicitors for a fee of £441.40 which is a debt incurred by overdraft charges from HBOS. These charges were put on me after i repaid my account back to zero and stopped using the account. I received multiple letters from HBOS along with phone calls telling me i had incurred charges which i disputed over the phone and was told i must pay. After disagreeing with the charges and weeks of constant phone calls i set out a plan to pay £5 a week, just to stop the calls, but i still made it clear that i didn't owe a penny. Now i have been sent threatening letters in which i am told legal proceedings will be brought against me if i don't pay immediately. I am considering offering to pay a fraction of what they say i owe but i wont pay anywhere near what they say i owe. What can i do? Am i trumped? Any help would be much appreciated.

You should never have agreed to pay anything if you did not owe it. You should not have disputed it over the phone,
and did everything in writing. It seems that because you stargted to pay then you have admitted to the debt.
Are you 100% sure you repaid the od, it seems that there may have been a small balance left which you were unaware of.
Do you still have your bank statements. Find out from them or the bankmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Yes im sure i paid the account back to zero and i have kept statements supporting this. In hindsight i know i shouldn't have paid them or spoke on the phone. I live with parents and it is usually them that has to listen to the constant phone ringing so i felt i needed to do something and it is just now when reading past threads i realised i could have stopped this with a letter.0

if you are certain that there is no debt, dont pay them a penny more, let them take you to court, you will win if the debt is not valid.0
