I compleatly agree with you, thats why i was slightly disapointed last year, but i didnt want to be rude and say no token presents lol, 8 tins of sweets between us 2 and then we had like a whole tin left of all the ones we didnt like ! lol * going to look more into making plaques! xxxx
Id prefer alcohol rather than chocs :D my nan does a bottle of vodka and a tin of chocs for us and my mum and dad so the same as alcohol is expensive so much nicer when bought by someone else, many times of sent H2B to work with a tin of unopened chocs as we have so many and i dont allow our 2 kids to eat loads

I know its not everyones cup of tea, home amde gifts but these were so gratefuly received everyone commented on how personal they were and how it was probably the best present received as thought had gone into it.the home made stuff was so easy to do,there was cards in them that were tea/coffee cards with poems inside.and the boxes i got from Aldi, there xmas boxes with lids and can be kept for storing xmas dec's etc after
  • You have a long time between now and Christmas to see all of the people and explain the situation - I'm sure they'd understand if you say you're not giving any pressies or just token ones. And make lots of hints about not wanting sweets as you're watching you weight for the wedding (even if you're not!)

We went to stay at OH's parents last year, and it was one looooooong and boring day, and I ended up falling asleep on the sofa:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Present wise this year we are cutting right down, as are skint.I like the idea of secret santas though, so might suggest that to the family:D:D
My present this year will be my new grandson, who's due at the end of this month:D:D

could you not ask people for something to contribute towards the wedding

i no its cheeky but ask people for those £15s and that adds up so you could say something like £30 buys us XXX for our special day and we would love for you to contribute to that instead of getting us any presents
The only people I have to answer to are my beautiful babies aged 8 and 5

My group of friends normally do a big dinner before Christmas, around November (as normally people go to various points around the world to see family) and we do a secret santa for the adults. Last year we skipped it, and I really missed it so I will be reinstating it again this year! I just love the fun of opening presents. Plus if you only buy one present then you can get something decent for £20 or so.

There are lots of kids too this time, so we might extend it to them, although most will be around 1. They were mainly 'immobile' last year, so should be much more work this time!

The crazy thing is we are doing the hosting again. Bearing in mind our wedding is in October, I suggested to the OH that perhaps we should arrange it at a pub this year as we had enough to plan... but his faced dropped so much I didn't have the heart to cancel! Was quite cute 'but, but... we can do it in December as people aren't travelling so much this year, we will have time!'

    So party is back on!

I've started thinking about it too! Think I'm going to go down the homemade gift basket or hamper route. Anyone know where you can buy hampers/baskets cheap?
