P60/P45 return after tax refund?

in Cutting tax
I reclaimed for overpaying tax last year and sent two P60s and a P45 to HMRC. I now have my repayment but it doesn't look like they automatically send back the paperwork. I have the statement of earnings/tax paid from HMRC and all my payslips, so I guess this won't matter? I like to have all my paperwork together, so I'm not sure if this is something I should be worried about or not!

They certainly do normally send your documents back. They're usually sent seperately though, so it depends when you got your repayment. If it's been more than a couple of weeks, you should contact HMRC as the documents are important.0

thanks - the first letter came last week saying i was due the refund, then today the cheque came through. nothing in any of the letters says that they'll be sending back anything or that another letter was due!
i guess i need to be more patient (as if this hasn't taken long enough already!) and then give it a fortnight before ringing up.:happyhear0 -
2 years ago I sent mine off, I never did get them back after chasing several times. I will only send photo copies now, they have never complained about me doing this.0

Most commercial organisations will allow you to take the originals of documents to one of their branches.
They then stamp and endorse a photocopy and allow the punter to put the form and bundle of (photocopied) documents in their internal mail system.
I suggested this system to a DSS office (or whatever it is called these days) about five years ago and was treated like a Martian.
Needless to say the transaction screwed up and descended to a farce in the hands of the local MP.
The only photo ID I have is my passport - nobody is getting the original of that!!0 -

There are some HMRC local offices available round the country that could offer such a service.0

Yes, they send your documents back eventually. I have to do this every year and I don't wish to alarm you, but this year my P60s have been sent to another random person (who very kindly wrote to me after phoning HMRC and complaining). This person was honest and has sent my P60s back to HMRC as they requested, but she thought she should tell me anyway as HMRC probably wouldn't. This was 10 days ago - I still don't have my P60s. Bearing in mind the depth of information on a P60 (dob, NI number, address, employer's address) it is quite a risk for identity theft, I would think.
When I can summon up the patience to sit on hold for 40 minutes and listen to recorded messages I suppose I'll have to ring them!0 -
