Are these a good buy in general? my daughter needs a new laptop for uni - these seem to be reasonable prices - have you bought from them before?
I've not bought from their factory outlet before, but I have bought a new Dell before.
Work has bought tens of thousands of new Dells over the years.
The support is rather better now than it was in the past. But that wouldn't have been difficult...
Don't forget that those prices do not include VAT and delivery..."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

If you spill anything on the next one, turn it upside down instantly and pull the power and battery out. The quicker the better. None of this Shutdown Windows crap...
The stick it somewhere warm for a week to dry out.
I'd heard filling the compartments up with rice works?
Maybe also look at your local computer shop. Ours does very reasonable built ones.

The problem then becomes that you have compartments full of wet rice. If you turn it upside down instantly, then the liquid doesn't then flow into the innards. It might have already wrecked the keyboard, but an external USB one is only about a tenner.Maybe also look at your local computer shop. Ours does very reasonable built ones.
You can't build laptops, only desktops.
Having said that. I've just bought a built desktop. It's very fast..."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

Yes, thanks for that Z. Are you trying to cheer me up or encourage me to throw myself under the nearest bus.
1. Are they bankers?
2. Why the Brown hatred, surely 1997 onwards is at least Brown / Blair?
3. Can't fault them on PFI. Whoever thought that one up should be shot.
4. My understanding with public sector pensions is that they tail off after about 2015 due to the reforms on them about 6 years ago and the requirement for peeps like me to pay in a bit more and work till I'm 68:eek: Obviously my hair won't be blue at that stage. I am a bit suspicious therefore at cutting the line off at 2016 just as it appears to start dipping.
5. Weren't we nearly bankrupt in about 1946. We were MASSIVELY bailed out by the Americans on not very good borrowing terms. Oh dear.

p.s. There's always the positive thought that I'll die like my mother at 61. That's only 17 years away, not long to wait!
p.p.s. Do we revert to Plan B again. Get job, pay off debt, move to Australia?Debt LBM (08/09) £11,641. DEBT FREE APRIL 2021.

You should be laughing in the face of adversity...1. Are they bankers?
No, I think they're bond brokers - probably one of the famed "bond vigilantes"...2. Why the Brown hatred, surely 1997 onwards is at least Brown / Blair?
He was allegedly Chancellor during that time, and so independent of the PM. He did seem to rule the Treasury at that time - see the Gershon Report for Brown nosing (pun entirely unavoidable)
Actually that does prompt me that I've forgotton who was Chancellor under Brown. Perhaps that's for the best...3. Can't fault them on PFI. Whoever thought that one up should be shot.
John Major I think (actually when he was Chancellor IIRC), but implemented when he was PM. Probably explains most things...4. My understanding with public sector pensions is that they tail off after about 2015 due to the reforms on them about 6 years ago and the requirement for peeps like me to pay in a bit more and work till I'm 68:eek: Obviously my hair won't be blue at that stage. In my eyes public sector pensions are no problem at all. When they become inconvenient, they'll just be reneged on.
A whole bunch of pensioners waving placards. I'm sure they're quaking already.5. Weren't we nearly bankrupt in about 1946. We were MASSIVELY bailed out by the Americans on not very good borrowing terms. Oh dear.
We were nearly bankrupt in the early 70's when we had the Secondary Banking Crisis (it's like deja vu all over again  ) and the IMF came in and lent us money.p.s. There's always the positive thought that I'll die like my mother at 61. That's only 17 years away, not long to wait!
Is that plan A? :eek:p.p.s. Do we revert to Plan B again. Get job, pay off debt, move to Australia?

Yes Darling, that was the Chancellor under Gordie.
I really wouldn't encourage me to start laughing. In my present mood it could manifest into something like my laughing when my mum died - 10 minutes of manical hysterical laughter followed by crying. It was not nice. People were edging towards the door whilst looking to see if they could see the outline of a machete under my jacket. The only good thing about it is that it FREAKS PEOPLE OUT.
PFI = not really debt, we'll just attach it to the running costs for 25 years and nobody will notice (well until inflation goes up). Kind of reminds me of Enron & Special Vehicles (off balance sheet sums). That also went well I think.
So we've been here before (twice) and we still haven't learnt?

If you want to do that, dress in a suit, get a clipboard and a shoulder bag, and walk up the street in broad daylight, knocking on doors. You'll have little kids rushing up to their windows screaming:
"The Moomins are coming! The Moomins are coming!"
"Mormons..."
"The Moomins are coming! Flee!"PFI = not really debt, we'll just attach it to the running costs for 25 years and nobody will notice (well until inflation goes up). Kind of reminds me of Enron & Special Vehicles (off balance sheet sums). That also went well I think.
Spectacularly so...So we've been here before (twice) and we still haven't learnt?
Hells bells, we've been here probably half a dozen times - it all depends on how far back you want to go. South Seas Bubble, John Law in France and Louisiana, Tulipmania, The Panic of 1873, 1929, Secondary Banking Crisis and now. And that's just off the top of my head.
There's also been a number of sovereign financial crises which were averted by decisive action, such as the Reformation and the Inquisition. It's amazing how stealing the wealth of someone else (the Catholic Church in England and the Knight's Templar on the Continent) eases your own financial worries...
I believe that's one of the reasons we bomb the crap out of any country with oil at the moment.
The Roman Empire had its fair share of financial crises too. Ever since the invention of moneylending, there have been crises.Plan C - The volcano option. May come off or not (literally!) Oh dear I do seem a little obsessed with death at the mo.
You've been watching too much daytime television. It leads to brain-cell death. The rest suffer so much, they wish they were dead..."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)
