Here’s a way of claiming up to £80 from the council if you live in Herefordshire or Worcestershire. The council are trying to get people to install food waste disposers in their kitchens to cut down on the amount of food waste that goes to landfill. You can buy a food waste disposer from anywhere in the UK and claim cashback from the council. There are a few simple terms and conditions but basically anybody in Herefordshire & Worcestershire can take up this offer. Food Waste disposers cost upwards of £48 for a small one or upwards of £101 for a family sized one. The amount of cashback depends on the amount spent, but the council allows you to include the cost of fitting to boost your cashback up to maximum of £80. Great if you want somewhere responsible for your cooked food waste. Website link http://www.sinkyourwaste.com

a really great possible alternative is a Kitchen Waste Composter.
Evergreener.com have them on offer here ->

Haven't tried one myself, but have heard many good reports.0 -
This Kitchen Waste Composter is a Bokashi Bin and (a) you need two of them in your kitchen (b) you have to buy and store £20 worth of Bokashi material every year (c) you have to have some ground to bury the stuff in afterwards or put it in a regular compost heap anyway. So for people with no garden, this is not such a good alternative as a Food Waste Disposer. For people with a garden, a green cone digester could be a better option.0

This is a great idea, I've just sent an email to my local council with a link to that site. I've seen units for around £80 from Screwfix, has anyone had experience installing waste disposal units?0

They're pretty easy to fix if you've done any basic plunming before and you've got a spare power socket under the sink. You need to think about how you switch it on. If you're installing a new kitchen, the cheapest thing to do is to put a double pole switch on the tiles behind the sink. If installing in an existing kitchen you could use a radio switch, but don't pay more than £15 for one. Some more expensive waste disposers come with an air switch - these are good and very neat, but can be a bit expensive if you have to buy one separately.
You can get waste disposers cheaper than Screwfix if you get one on mail order from one of the suppliers listed on sinkyourwaste.com. The cheapest is the Waste Maid 058 at £47.88 inc VAT and delivery - this would be OK for a household of two people. A basic family sized one would cost £101.0
