Freezing Endowment

I do not want to cash in my endowments due to the fact they will make a loss if sold, I have tried selling them.
I am now thinking of freezing them to save me having to keep up payments that are now too high.
Is there any advice on making endowments 'paid up', what are the pit falls.
Is this a good idea ?
