Help! Carpet smells after cleaning

Hello
I am so upset. We shampooed our carpets over the weekend and as clean as they now are our whole house smells of wet dog/disgusting musty odour. We followed the instructions to the letter and used the recommended cleaning solution. The windows have been opened (and the doors) but the smell is over powering
The machine has now gone and I don't know what to do to remove or reduce the smell, please can someone help?

Not a problem I have had I'm afraid, but I do know that when my dog is wet she is rather pongy, but when she's dry she isn't. This might hold true of carpets?0

Not sure what we can do to dry them faster? It has been scorching sunshine here and the windows and doors open too.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

Are your carpets wool, because wool carpets do smell "doggy" when wet.
We don't have a dog and ours smell very doggy when cleaned.
Just try washing a pure wool sweater,it will stink while wet but dries fine.0 -
If the carpets are still wet you could bring a few box fans in and help expedite the process.0

The underlay will still be slightly damp and the smell is more pronounced with hessian backing0

Have you or can you borrow a dehumidifyer.
I run mine when I shampoo the carpets and they usually dry over night.0
