New bank / loan?

Hi,

This is on behalf of my girlfriend rather than myself (I am hoping to be debt free in a couple of months :))

She has moderate debt at the moment, I think about 6k on credit cards and overdrafts (I know its all subjective, that might be a lot to some people and nothing to others). Her bank is very unhelpful (Natwest, which doesnt surprise me as I kicked them into touch years ago), they dont mind upping the credit card limit but wont offer a loan to help sort things out. She has a permanent job, although not earning an awful lot (about 1200/month I think after tax)

She reckons she has a bad credit rating due to missed payments on a previous property she was staying in, and this means she cant get accounts with other banks - I am really not convinced on this though, this isnt a huge debt and I would have thought another bank would be more than willing to open a new account and help her with a loan over a few years?

The other option I had to help her out is to take out a loan in my name which she would then pay back via me. Does that sound a reasonable option, or should we look at other avenues before going there?

your girlfriend needs to come here and post her SOA with details of income, spending and debts. its no good refinancing debts if she continues to run upnew debts so the starting point is sorting out spending.
