If my partner was to get a car on finance would this go against us applying for a mortgage?

Yes it will be taken accout of, in that the monthly repayments will be offset against your partners income when they conduct their affordability assessment,.

A well conducted loan on the credit record could improve the chances of actually getting a mortgage.
But a credit commitment will certainly be taken in to account when assessing affordability - loan in place = smaller mortgage available.0
