En-suite refurbishment

Options
Hi there. Was just wondering if anyone knows of or can recommend someone to undertake an en-suite makeover i.e removal of old tiles, shower, toilet etc and replacing with new power shower/shower tray, new tiles and toilet?
Obviously will have a budget but want a good job done that will not cost the earth. Any suggestions or recommendations greatly appreciated. Live in Portadown.

Very good workmanship. Not the absolute cheapest because he only buys his materials from Bassets but that means he always delivers quality. Very tidy workmanship.

You may have to wait several weeks to get him because he's always busy but well worth the wait.

Hi GlynD - thanks for that. So basically he can do everything? (we want to put a power shower in which will mean installing a pump and will need tiling done aswell - basically the full works). Has he done a job for yourself?

Yes, he provides a full service. He is very up front and will tell you that he himself doesn't do the tiling but that he will bring a tiler over to subcontract that part of the job. He does all the pumbing and electrical work personally though and charges by the day. You go to Bassets and order the sanitary ware etc. He collects it and pays for it and passes on any trade discount to you.

He has fitted a new central heating boiler for us and relocated it outside the house. We're very happy with the job and also have a very pleasing quote from him to do our bathroom. We will use him once we get round to it.

Showers seem to be one of those elements that go wrong. Partly it is due to bad design and partly bad workmanship. Usual points to look out for.
1 Shower tray not level and not properly supported. You don't want any movement.
2 Shower tray designed with flat edge around outside so water does not necessarily flow into tray.
3 If there are timber stud walls you need ext. ply around the shower enclosure NOT plasterbd!!!
4 Shower enclosure that just leaks because of poor design and manufacture. Increasingly common.
5 The most important, make very very sure the junction between the shower tray and wall tiles is sealed, sounds obvious BUT ..............!*!!!**?
6 Avoid shower fittings that recess into the wall unless you can get at the other side. Have known slow hidden leaks to cause dry rot.

Try P. Nugent Lurgan. He has a website.
