I have been given the option of taking voluntary departure from my job- my decision is dependant on whether i can get another job. I'm 43 so it's too early for me to give up work.
I have seen some jobs that would be ideal but the problem is- do i mention the offer of vol departure in my cover letter to explain why i am applying for a different job after being with the same employer 25 years? I don't want it to look like i am being made the offer because they want to get rid of me personally- that's not the case. My role is going but i have been offered another similar one elsewhere but i just saw this as an opportunity for a new career and the money they are offering me to go would be very useful.
I need some advice on how to word the covering letter. If anyone could give me some suggestions, that would be great!;)

The cover letter and CV are to get you an interview.
They are looking for someone to do a particular job. In the covering letter I would just point to how I met the requirements for the job and how they would benefit them in the future.
Though at interview you could be asked why you were leaving the current employer, I don't see the need to dwell on that in the letter. The employer wants to know what you can offer them so use the space to do that.0 -
You don't need to put that in the covering letter.
Plus at the time of interview when they most likely will ask the actual reason is that your role is disappearing where you currently work and this is a great opportunity for you to begin a fresh new challenge.
It's all about looking at the positive side of it for you..that's what a new employer wants to see in you.
Good luck!!

That's good advice, thanks very much. I will concentrate on why i have the skills to do the job in my covering letter, hope for an interview and take it from there.
Thinking about it, i guess if you are in a job and applying for another one then if you are the right person for the job, the future employer should just see it as gaining an asset. References will be able to show there are no bad reasons why you are leaving.0
