Basic bank account

Hi

I want to open a basic bank account before I go bankrupt so i can transfer my direct debits and income.

Does anyone have any good/bad things to say about Barclay or co-op that I need to know.

Am I to assume that these accounts will not be touched during bankruptcy and should I include these in my SOA?

Barclays normally won't allow you to use internet banking while you are undischarged.

Aside from that, I think both accounts are about equal.

Both the Coop Cashminder and Barclays Cashcard account should be OK to open prior to the BR. You would have to declare them, but mark them as a basic account that you want to continue using and that should be OK with the OR.

    Thanks for your replies

Looks like it's the co-op then, I'll go down to the branch on Monday and apply.

Do they need to know that my plan is to go bankrupt or should I wait till I am and then tell them?

I personally told them, they were fine, and i have had no problems with the account either. Easy and accessible to use, especially online banking. I opened my account in january to make sure everything went smoothly, and went Br in May.

You can apply over the phone, I have had mine nearly 2 years and have nothing but praise for them. It is best to tell them you are going BR, that way there will be no confusion with opening the correct account:)

I have a current account with the Coop at the moment, I'm thinking of going BR if my situation doesn't improve in the next month or so - does anyone think the best course of action would be to set up a Cashminder and close my current account before BR so I can transfer benefit payments/direct debits etc.
