Hi all,

I'm loooking for some cheap men's work trousers (pref. not 100% polyester) for max £15.

Would ideally like 100% cotton. Are chinos suitable for an office/work enviornment. Any other suggestions?

have tried:

Primark: W36 L34 were too tight (£10)
Asda: £8 too loose.
Sainsbury's: £12.50 W36 L34 too loose.

Depends what everyone else wears, what about m&s, matalan. If everyone else wears chinos then go for them. What kind of environment is it or type of work.

i'll try them thanks. office work place, non public facing, expected to wear smartish trousers - only problem is lifting is required and i've already split 2 pairs of 65% poly/35% viscose smart trousers!

One of my colleagues just bought some dark brown jeans-type trousers for £7 in Tesco's to wear at work. It depends on the workplace but I'd say that chinos were fine, as long as they are clean.

I'd say dark trousers on the first day or two, until you've got the "feel" of the place. But as long as it's clean and respectable (e.g. not too revealing for either s*x, no T-shirts with offensive slogans or images, etc.), I think it'll be fine.

Lots of luck to you - hope you enjoy your job! x

Have you thought about dark courdoroy trousers? I bought a decent pair from Marks & Spencers for about £10 - £20 under their Blue Harbour range. Pocket material is a little thin but pretty tough besides!

Erm, i think cords would be a little too informal per se but thanks for the suggestion.

i'm torn between the sweaty 65 poly/35 viscose trousers that are acceptable at work and getting more comfortable slacks??

anyone have any experience of what they've done in terms of office work trousers???

rj2009 - don't totally discount gazzard's cords-idea. As long as they are clean, they might be OK. I'd be happy to see any of my team in cords at work, provided they were clean and not ripped. That said, though, I do refer you to my initial post and the fact that each individual workplace is different.

I do know that other colleagues, in the past, have simply telephoned their prospective manager prior to their start-date and said "I was thinking of wearing 'xyz' to work - is this acceptable, or would you prefer a more/less-formal attire?". No-one at your new workplace will think any the less of you for asking - plus which, it shows your manager that you are a conscientious person.

    Best wishes. x
