Hi all,
Today i went along to aldi for my weekly shop, and tonight cos im sad and have nothing better to do, i have compared the recipet to tescos online, my aldi shop came in at 45.00, putting as close as possible to the orig on tescos website it came in at 49.60.
Now i do have to say the things like dishwasher tablets where a lot cheaper at Aldis, but stuff like foil and chicken breast where cheaper at tescoc, just goes to show you never know which blumin supermarket to choose ! lol

yes - but you also have to take into account the quality of the items. for example, neither Tesco or Asda come close to the taste of the Aldi fresh chicken! I find Asda's chicken isnt worth buying - its totally tasteless! and I am talking about the standard fresh chicken. If you compare Asda 'Value' to Aldi then its gonna be Asda beats Aldi on price maybe - but when you compare quality and taste then Aldi beats Asda even on the Asda or Premium brands. I think the difference between Aldi and Asda is that Aldi cares about the quality of their food and gets it at the lowest price possible.0

Hi there
I did similar yesteray.
I just did a rough tot up from the receipt as to what i know (ish) roughly what asda prices are. I saved just over £20 so have changed my main shop to aldi. Theres still things i will get monthly from asda - nappiers and other bits and bobs. But i have to say i am impressed with my saving0 -
You have to shop around to get the best of both really, I tend to shop at Aldi first and then Asda (which is on route home) for the cheaper bits.:j Mortgage Free!! )Generally trying to cut back where possible :j0

Yep you soon get to know where is best/ cheapest for what. Aldi foil is more but its comparable to baco foil in quality not thin value foil - which I only use for ds's sarnies.
I buy smart price honey, syrup and oats in asda and go for whoopsies and multi buy offers occassionally.
Aldi nappies are brilliant - used them at night once dd was out for her washables during the dayPeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

I have an Aldi not too far away but its only a small one really and in my local paper a couple of women have been fined for going five minutes over the time allowed now byt the stor for shopping Its been reduced from 9o minutes to 60 minutes and as there is rarely more than one till open if you are buying a big shop it isn't hard to go over the hour.I usually only go in there for fresh fruit and veg when they have something on the offer.I must say I have never bought meat from there as I have a local butcher that sells rae breeds where I live who is marvelous .Not cheap but well worth it and with better meat you don't need quite so much0

I am thinking about starting a spreadsheet to remind me what to buy where - both for price and quality. I am forever trying to remember which things are better/cheaper out of Mr T/Lidl/Aldi/Mr S (don't do Mr A as we haven't got one nearby). If I use a spreadsheet I can filter by shops to make a list to take.Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0

Til they change the price or quality
I check the Aldi website or leaflet thing for what is coming up on offer, then meal plan for the week - I find Aldi prices don't change by much and not very often (their sunflower spread has been 75p for 500g for a while now and Garlic sausage 39p, £2.99 chickens they seem to always have plenty too) So it is easier to work out what is cheaper where - If when I go to Aldi they have run out, then I get the best i can from Asda.:j Mortgage Free!! )Generally trying to cut back where possible :j0 -
Thing with aldi as the other poster said is the quality. I have found it usually is as good as the supermarkets mid range and often as good as the premium, plus if you have regular items you get each week the price hardly varies so easier to budget.
I use the web (here and my supermarket/shops own sites) to watch for good offers. I do my Aldi weekly shop (looking for any of their special buys of course-gardening stuff is brill), then go to morrisons for bits Aldi don't sell or are on offer there. Any goos offers I will make a trip to MR S, MR T or MR A and stock up. We also have an Makro card again to stock up-but we have storage space so that maybe more of a problem to others. Even when I worked at MR A a few years ago and got a discount, I found the quality to be rubbish and seeing behind the scenes also put me off lol.
