Finally made it onto Roll of Honour!!

Hi All

I've just made the post I've dreamt about for so long - the Debt Free Roll of Honour!! July 2011 saw me come to the end of my Payplan DMP (started in May 2007) and had the final phone call yesterday from the Payplan Account Manger to read through my 10 creditors and confirm the final balances at 0. I'd made the payment on 3rd July, but they do this check at the end of the month to make sure there are no little amounts of interest still outstanding. Turns out Barclaycard have been overpaid by £1.39 - I'm not too worried about that.

How does it feel now? Well, it didn't feel 'real' at the beginning of the month, but that phone call and a couple of statements arriving today with a 0 balance have made it seem very real now. Cannot begin to describe the relief - the debt really has gone for good. This forum has been such a source of inspiration and I've learnt good habits that will stay with me for life now. But I don't think I will ever forget how I felt when I had the 'lightbulb moment' - the world had crashed down around me, it could not get any worse. So if you have yet to arrive at your debt free day - keep going!!! Month in, month out, I entered the Payplan payment onto my spreadsheeet. Sometimes thought 'if only i didn't have to pay this....' but then reminded myself it was my choice to deal with these debts, no one forced me - so carry on. And the months did indeed roll by. There were a few much needed treats along the way but it is hard, very hard. The joy you feel when you get there will be amazing.:j:j:j

  • Hi charleyroo
Yes it was a brilliant phone call! At the end of it I said 'Well thanks very much' but that didn't seem enough somehow after 3.5 years. Payplan have been great. I think I will write to them to say a proper thankyou. Had my feet up on the bed, reading, with my new kitten curled up next to me when the phone rang - what a perfect moment that was!
