And please can no one mention people living in poverty, I know some people in the UK have it hard BUT I've worked in places like Africa and have seen REAL poverty so find it hard when people with free medical care, schooling etc (everyone in the UK) are said to be living in poverty!

Are you seeking the monopoly on mentioning people living in poverty? ;);)

You are comparing....a developing country to a developed country...free medical care and schooling that is not free to all in both Africa and UK....the "freebies" whether in UK or Africa are free to the recipient at a cost to the benefactor (willing or not)....many of us have volunteered and donated to less fortunates in both UK and Africa...there is wealth in both UK and Africa....there are those in both that have the means but will not impart with same to help their fellow man....the UK is sinking giving aid and burdening the taxpayer without their permission.....

    My two pennyworth...

The price of housing throught the UK bears no resemblance to people's wages and their subsequent ability to service said debt AND meet normal everyday living costs.

I appreciate no-one has an absolute natural "right" to be able to buy their own house but housing needs to be affordable - either rented or purchased - people need somewhere to live!

Another factor which raises house prices is the fact that the people who value the house for sale - Estate Agents - have a vested interest in pricing it as high as possible as their fees / commission is based on said sale price. Maybe fixed price fees for price bands would prevent "estate agent inflation".

For some people, house purchase is not the answer. My cousin, who has lived in Germany for 40 years, has always rented. If it works in Euroope, why not here?

Why do people feel entitled to a higher standard of living than their parents?
Cannot remember ever feeling that way myself.

It's called progress. A modern society should move forward not back. Ie be positive for the future and make it better.

I would have thought that those people would be more interested in turnover, so would prefer a lower price and a quick sale.

I suppose it depends who your parents are, you would be struggling if you are a Junior Buffett, with daddy being so successful and then taking the philanthropy route.

Who says? Where is that written? In your own everybody-owes-me-a-living rule book? Have a trawl through the internet and find me the rules that state this little gem, please.

Maybe we were better off before all this consumerism. Money doesn't necessarily make you happy.

Yes but it's not the ACTUAL way that things are done. Just because you want things to be that way doesn't make it so. So you have two options: either work and strive for your whole life (and go without) to make the world a better place for the next generation or you could just try to exploit everything and everyone you can. Do to others as you feel you have been done to.

Either way stop complaining, you make the rest of us look bad.
